According to Robert Manning, founder of the Responsible Debt Relief Institute, a nonprofit credit-education organization in Rochester, New York, explains why.

Are card issuers monitoring what we buy? Yes. They are looking for changes in how and where you use your card. If you ring up just one item at a dollar store, they may assume you are having financial trouble. Or you put on your plastic a dinner, then they will think the same. He suggests that you do not use your card to charge things you don’t already. Avoid charging anything that could indicate personal issues, like marriage counseling (which could signal an impending divorce), or a large number of drinks at a bar (they could assume you have a drinking problem). If your credit has been cut, keep your spending behavior consistent and call the credit card company in six months to appeal for your old limit be restored.
